Its commander is Araya, First of Locthwain, an elf noble that deals damage to my foe and gives me 1 life whenever a I play a black creature

Veteran Motorist by itself isnt bad, but it does mean you have to build Mardu as an aggressive deck and mostly keep that intact post-sideboard

While just a common, dont be fooled this card is really scary with all the bounce effects in Rise of the Floodborn

What I then came to realise however is that a lot of the permanents that give a one off big shot of cards or an ongoing supply of them and cannot easily be disrupted by removal either

While modest on its own, it becomes much stronger alongside token makers such as Resplendent Angel or Angel of Invention
